The weekend of November 4, 2017 saw the successful completion of another Bike Loaner Program season at the C & O Canal. On Thursday, November 9th, we cleaned and tuned up all of our bikes in preparation for their winter sleep. A heartfelt thanks to all of our tremendous volunteers throughout the year who helped make the program one of the highlights of many visitors’ days in the park. We hope you all have a great Winter season, enjoy your holidays, and look forward to seeing you again in the Spring
Thanks for joining us this past year.
Hello all. On this rainy Sunday (10/29/2017) we weren’t able to open the Bike Loaner Program. However, we are going to operate one more weekend, weather permitting. See you next weekend and don’t forget to change your clocks then.
As October begins and the leaves are starting to fall, the Bike Loaner Program is heading into its last few weeks of operation for the season. Weather permitting, we will remain open through the last weekend of October then put the bikes to rest for the Winter after a final maintenance party.
The Bike Loaner Program will be closed this Saturday, September 23, so that our dedicated staff of volunteers can attend our annual picnic. We will open on Sunday as usual. The last weekend of October will be the final weekend for the 2017 program.
Thanks and see you on the trail.
The tow path is a bit muddy from yesterday’s rain and more is expected today (Saturday, May 6). This means that the Bike Loaner Program is closed today, but we expect to open tomorrow (Sunday).
Over the last 3 weekends the program has seen an incredible level of interest. Come join us next weekend (April 22 – 23) during a Fee Free Weekend at the park and see the tow path from a different perspective.
Weather permitting, the Bike Loaner Program will open this Saturday, April 1, for the 2017 season. Join us from 10 – 4 Saturdays and Sundays to see the canal.
Hope to see you at the Visitors’ Center at the Park.
With the recent and pending warm days, it is easy to start thinking about riding on the tow path again. We have been hard at work getting the bikes ready for our opening. Depending on the weather, it may be late March or early April. Stay tuned here and on our Facebook page for opening updates.
We have come to the end of another great season for the Bike Loaner Program. Over the last several months we lent out the bikes to thousands of happy visitors who returned from their explorations with smiles on their faces.
All the bikes have seen an end of season maintenance and been put to rest until next Spring.
Enjoy your holidays and come take a hike in the park to see its splendor in all seasons.
This weekend, October 15 & 16 is the last weekend for rides this year on the mule drawn canal boat at the Great Falls Visitors’ Center. Come ride the boat and then ride a bike, the weekend should be great! The bike loaner program expects to be in operation until the weather gets colder. Please check our Facebook page to find out our operational status.
